‘nature gives you the face you have at twenty,

life shapes the face you have at thirty,

at fifty you get the face you deserve’

I love this Coco Chanel quote.

Ageing is a leveller.  As you get older there are no short cuts and even those women who avoided spots and had glowing skin in their twenties can struggle when they  hit 40.

The odd facial is also a waste of money, it is just a plaster that works for a couple of days but doesn’t really improve or change your skin in the long term.

So what do I do?  I have written about all the different things but a lot of readers have asked me to summarize it.

It is about finding active products that work and not overdoing it, which I have been guilty of in the past and your skin ends up getting agitated.

My Current Routine:

In the morning I use Vitamin C serum normally from Auriga Flavo-C Forte or SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF and then depending on how dry my skin is I add a facial oil such as Trilogy Rosehip Oil.

In the Summer I use Heliocare airgel sunblock and in the Winter my tinted moisturiser from Dr. Perricone as it has built in protection.

Dermaquest Stem Cell, 3D Eye Lift eye cream is the best.  I have tried them all and this is the only one that makes a difference to my lines. It really is worth the investment.

At Night Time:

I now use Dermaquest 3D Complex Stem Cell 3D and Hydrafirm Serum also from Dermaquest Stem Cell 3D.  These are expensive but I only use a tiny amount and they last and last.  I would recommend you visit a salon that stocks the brand and have an expert prescribe what you need.  If you are in London I would recommend BeYoutiful otherwise check out the Dermaquest website.

To help with my pigmentation I use Skinceuticals Advanced Pigment Corrector as it fades my sun damage.

Retinol is something I also add once or twice a week, but I am careful to build it up and some days I just use a facial oil to give my skin a rest.  The Trilogy Rosehip is the best and so reasonable.

Once a week I use Agera exfoliant and I alternate with facemasks from By Terry Cellularose Hydraradiance Mask.  If I am travelling I love the Dragons Blood mask by Rodial.

If I get an outbreak I use Kelkin Spot Zapper.

Facials have to be regular, therefore as I am on a budget it is crucial to find somewhere well priced that deliver results.  I have mine done at Spa by Car as I can do it at night when the children are in bed!

You have to throw in some more harder working treatments, I do a course of Derma Roller  once a year and then top up every couple of months.  I will also have a few  lasering sessions in the winter to remove my broken veins and help with pigmentation.  I go to BeYouthiful as the girls are so well priced and know what they are doing. Please send me any great well priced beauticians that you are happy to recommend and I am happy to spread the word.

Yes I also have Botox, once or twice a year, be careful to go to someone recommended and don’t overdo it as Botox alone does not make your skin look better, it just helps with those deep frown lines. Dr. Lynette Yong is fabulous.

In 2017 I will be exploring other treatments and will be sharing with you those treatments that really work.

Nutrition is something I also want to improve in 2017.  I am so guilty of grabbing food where I can but I am going to try and prepare more from now on.  If you have any great recipes for soups, salads or healthy snacks please email me on
