I know it is predictable to use a picture of the divine Emmanuelle Alt but she just, always gets it right. No outlandish outfits for her and when I am tempted by something, I am not sure is a classic, I tend to ask myself, would Emmanuelle approve?
With all the crazy pictures from London Fashion Week and all the ever more outlandish street style, it is good to reflect on classics, which will stand the test of time and with busy lives, classics make dressing easier.
Take the navy blazer, I swoon when I see someone dressed in a great navy blazer, white shirt or t-shirt and a fabulous pair of jeans. It is not earth shattering but the look is universally flattering. Navy is more forgiving than black in the daylight and you always look put together.
I wish instead of trying to turn us into to clones of Alexa Chung, yes we all adore her but please could we have a change! I know, I would hoover up a range dedicated to emulating Emmanuelle Alt’s key pieces.
So until we get a great ‘Alt ‘ inspired range, buy the best navy blazer you can afford, wait for the sales or buy it on Ebay, which is where I found this Ralph Lauren one. It is cut close to the body and the wool is sublime, as are the buttons. You cannot go wrong with Ralph Lauren.
Balmain is perfection but even second hand on Ebay, they still cost over a thousand pounds. You could try and track down one of the Balmain for H&M jackets but even these cost nearly five hundred pounds.
At this time of the year it is so easy to be tempted by all those ‘new season’ must haves but they often just create a chain reaction in your wardrobe, where you need more things to go with that new purchase.
So stay strong and revisit your wardrobe and pull out that navy blazer. I am going to wait and in a few months and see if I can track down a preloved Balmain or once the furore of H&M for Balmain has dissipated, one of these on Ebay, as I love the shorter open style and the gold buttons.
