I was helping a reader clear her wardrobe and I had a flash of realisation, she was struggling with her work wear and all the brands I rhymed off, she discounted as just too expensive. She wanted to keep her cash for her weekend wardrobe and at the same time she had outgrown Zara and was struggling with her usual go to brands .
It got me thinking of how difficult it must be ( my office days are over 10 years behind me) to maintain two parallel wardrobes. As I am perpetually in gymwear I canvassed all my friends for well priced tips on where to shop. Also it helps running NW8closet to see where the resale value in brands is.
Hobbs came back topping all the lists, fair sizing, great quality and as I get to resell the brand the prices you can achieve are some of the highest. So it is here I am starting with my monthly Work Wear Edit.
So I am going to be doing a monthly visit to find some great office pieces and this post is not sponsored I just featured the pieces I would wear, if I had to head to an office or just dress a bit more smartly.
Lets start with skirts, hand on heart the Hobbs pencil skirts are so perfectly tailored and I love that they hit just below the knee and they are properly lined too. I found the sizing true, I took a UK 10. Normally I am really conscious of my tummy and these skirts somehow worked to flatten and gave a great silhouette.
I love the houndstooth fabric of the one featured below and the material is thick enough to keep you warm but does not add inches, it also comes in a burgundy. The shirt is a wonderful colour and I adore the neck buttons and the billowing sleeve. This shirt is polyester but feels and looks like silk and as it is a work piece ( though you could wear it out at the weekend too) it needs to go in the machine which this does.
Throwing on a sweatshirt or an oversized knit just doesn’t work in most office environments but I do love adding a more modern top like the breton one I am wearing below paired with with a classic pencil skirt. It is more youthful and again you can wear the top with jeans. Check out the Sasha top lots of readers have tipped me off but they didnt have my size in store.
The skirt was one of my top finds the button detailing elongates your waist and draws attention outwards away from the tummy. These are some of the clever tailoring that sets Hobbs apart .
I also found some great trousers ( lined ) they were wool but not too thick and you can also dress these up are down.
The blazers and coats were also brilliant particularly the red one called Tilda , the fabric is gorgeous but it is just one of the great pieces you will find.
If you are looking for a well tailored blazer then check out the Georgia pictured below.
Scarves are a wonderful way of dresses up any outfit and I was impressed by the selection I found at Hobbs and they would make great gifts.
The shirt below would dress up a simple suit or pair of trousers and is on my Wish List, it is called the Erika.
If you are looking for figure flattering, well made clothes that will last and be comfortable to wear then Hobbs is one to check out!
This is not a paid or sponsored post, I wanted to thank the lovely staff in Hampstead branch for being so welcoming!
I approached lots of brands most ignored my emails and Hobbs were one of the only ones that responded quickly and the Marketing Team have been so welcoming and supportive. Bringing unbiased reviews is harder than you think!
Thank you Alex for the photos.
