It is one of those nights I will never forget, I was lucky enough to get invited to the opening of Nells, a new Jazz and Blues venue in West Kensington.
There was such a buzz as we entered the building, we all felt we were in for something special.
This new venue reminded me of how I used to go out and see bands, watch live music and how I felt alive, exhilarated and also a bit cool!
Sitting there, children, work and the humdrum of life seemed miles away.
The venue is well laid out so you have a great view of the stage and the acoustics were superb. There is also a stylish long bar at the back of the venue.
I have always loved Van Morrison, he is right up there with my love of Barbra Streisand and Elvis and to be able to hear such a legend up close in such an intimate venue felt truly thrilling.
He blew us all away, the voice, the humour , the songs and his amazing band.
As an Irish person living abroad, there are some songs that are so visceral that they bring a real touch of home to you and listening to Van Morrison does that to me.
It evokes all the things I love about Ireland, the changing weather, the beauty of the countryside and our love of great music and people.
So get on to itunes and get downloading, I am listening to his greatest hits as I write this and though it’s almost eleven and I have been up since six, I feel grand!
I will be heading back to Nell’s soon and have booked tickets to see the amazing Mary Coughlan on the 22nd of November.
My concert attire, my favourite Topshop leather leggings and a vintage t-shirt!
