Last week when we checked out Noreen’s wardrobe it was all about the cape. This week I cannot wait to show you her statement skirts.
What we found in this exquisite wardrobe was an Aladdin’s Cave of the best skirts I have ever encountered.
I have personally shied away from skirts in the winter, as I hate wearing tights and most skirts make me feel frumpy.
Noreen’s wardrobe smacks of glamour and excitement… think the best bits of Sex in the City!
The snapshot above sets the scene- colour and texture abound in her collection of skirts.
One of the first names to pop up was Stella Jean. The skirt shapes are classic and the colours are so alluring. The one below is on sale at Matches and would look amazing paired with a black polo neck sweater.
Vintage is the best way to go for skirts as you tend to get glorious material, and the designers were a lot more generous with the fabric they used.
This Pucci skirt is a vintage find of Noreen’s, as well the silver skirt which Deborah discovered.
To balance out the extravagance of the skirts, Noreen’s tip is to stock up on Marks and Spencer cashmere, they balance out the look and make it more current and wearable.
When Deborah and I saw Noreen pull out this purple House of Holland skirt we both went weak at the knees. The colour, the sublimely soft material… this is perfection in a skirt.
Can you believe she found it in a sample sale- not even on rail but in the last chance bin!
Most of us would of rejected it as too bright but not Noreen. She focusses on great shapes and material and this skirt has both of these in bucketfuls.
So how to recreate this look?
Well, firstly you have to find a shape that works for you and your life style, and as in the last article, think colour and texture.
This look is best paired with a simple white shirt or sweater. This could be in a neutral colour, or if you are brave go for something contrasting. We played with coral and brown with the skirt below. It is amazing how divine brown looks with these more exuberant colours. I am on the hunt for a chocolate brown cashmere sweater- if you find one let me know.
I have put together a list of some great skirts below.
Also go as long as you can- ideally calf length as it is so much easier to wear in the winter. I know it will be cold but with a great oversized coat to throw over it you will be kept warm. I have included a cross section of great skirts- some more flamboyant than others .
Thank you Noreen, for as you can see below a grand time was had by all.
Next week we will be looking at the perfect heel!
