I feel embarrassed writing the words ‘Party Wear’,  over the years I have bought so many of the wrong things and I get older, less is definitely more. At the same time there is nothing worse than turning up at a party and feeling completely under dressed.

I think the best bet is to have a few go to pieces, that you can bring out year after year and save your money for investment pieces instead.

I have one great sequin top that I will be bringing out for the third year in a row.  It is a nod to glitz but the sequins are matt  and the shape is simple and I always dress the top down. I wear it with my ‘posh joggers’ or my ‘glamorous jeans’ . You don’t need more than one of these but get the shape that works on you.

The one above is ASOS but I have spotted a new one on Ebay .

  • I bought the sequin jumpsuit from TOPSHOP 7 years ago and worn it to 3 New Years Parties, now that I am a bit older I throw a sweater over the top, again it it the finish of the sequins which make it so special. Pairing it with a softer colour and fabric make it less 70’s and more contemporary in feel.
  • ASOS have a very similar pair this season.
  • I have to highly recommend Commando they always produce the best party leggings and they look expensive and are really comfortable on. Check out the sequin ones below.

On my Wish List are these sequin pants below from PAROSH, they are wonderful, ( size right down I needed a small)  again the sequins are exquisite and they are so easy to pull on and go. I would wear them with a white shirt or a NINETY PERCENT vest.

Shoes are key for this a simple sandal is best.  Jimmy Choo are my favourites and don’t forget you can find all the designer brands for less on the Preloved Market. Don’t forget to size up with Jimmy Choo ( I go up half a size and they have the best Winter Sales).

A great boyfriend cashmere always works over sequins, keep an eye out for Joseph the quality is next to none and they always have the best sales. You cannot beat H&M this season the cashmere is spot on and fairly priced. Oxfam also have so many !

Not to mention a boyfriend tuxedo, it always works over sequins and adds a less girly edge to an outfit. Again vintage is best!

What I traditionally wear is a ‘Evening Coat’ again mine is 10 years old and comes out every year. these are great if you just cannot be bothered changing and dress up any simple outfit. The one below is from Lucas Nascimento . Spotted the gold version in a small on Vestiarie Collective

Capes are another great way of adding drama to an outfit, the one below is from Dries Van Noten and I pair it with tuxedo trousers on a night out.

I love this one below from The Fold , the fabric is so beautiful and it is on my WISH LIST, I would wear this over my Raey joggers with a simple black cashmere  and a black pair of suede heels. Saint Laurent does the best simple sandals that go with everything, it is called the Amber and again one of the items I am looking for in the sales.

On my list is a black cape from Les Glorieuses, it is the perfect length and something you can wear every season. I spotted a wonderful size XXL one from Mariana Rinaldi on Ebay . Look out for Joseph capes

Another item on my list is am evening suit, no need for tanning or spanx, I want a winter white one ! The Holy Grail is Max Mara but I have spotted great ones from the likes of Paul Smith  and I love the edit from Anine Bing , particularly good if you are more petite. Check out the Rag and Bone suits too, which are really modern in feel.

I think the key is to buy one or two really fabulous items and bring them out every year.

In reality most of the time it is going to be freezing and I will be in some version of a ‘posh jogger’ and an evening top ! This year though I have a white tuxedo suit topping my Wish List as well as a pair of simple Saint Laurent heels.

Below are the pieces on my WISH LIST !
