In the past I have done Paris and Morocco, when Jemima, suggested Buckinghamshire, I wasn’t overly excited but after the move and various kids being sick, I just wanted to get away.
We booked a house through Airbnb and off we went. The best bit it only took 40mins on the train from Marylebone in London and we were there, in the glorious British countryside on the hottest weekend of the year !
Jemima had bought this amazing book, which details walks from lots of UK train stations, so you don’t have to drive or even stay overnight.
You jump on the train and start the walk from the station, pit stop at a lovely pub for lunch and then jump on the train back to London.
We did a 11 mile walk starting from Tring. It took in the Ashridge Estate and Dockey Wood, so we could see the bluebells. It is the best walk I have ever done and I am hooked. It took 4 hours in total including lunch at the fabulous Bridgewater Arms in Little Gaddesden.
The scenery was breath taking and the walk challenging enough but we still could chat all the way through.
Check out the Walking Club for all the details and we stayed at The Limes, which you can book through Airbnb. Happy to answer any questions . There are loads of amazing pubs to eat such as the The Nags Head and we also hit the Antique shops and I picked up a great Saint Laurent sweater for £70 !
I will be back to Great Missenden with the kids as this is the British Countryside at its best and a stone throw from London.
You do not need boots, we all walked in trainers and I would pack a Pac a Mac or wear a hoodie as the weather was very changeable.
Thank you Jemima for organizing and Ruka, Reena, Estelle and Louise for making it such a special weekend .
