The key to buying clothes that work is thinking about the occasions which they have to be worn.  I live in London, work from home, still have young kids and am by the beach for most of the summer so I have very defined requirements.

The reality is that in London we wear our jeans all year round and maxi dresses just don’t work in the City.  I have learned to invest in great tops, jeans and shorts.  Then, I need super light-weight dresses to throw over my swimwear, as well as flats, for the rest of the summer.

So think about what you need and enjoyed wearing in the past, rather than just jumping on the trends.

Spring 2017 Trends

I always start by looking at the new arrivals and then move on to the sales to try and find a similar pieces from previous seasons at lower prices.

Let’s start with jeans; I think this is the best place to put your money.  The black jeans featured are from Rachel Comey, I discovered these last summer but the price tag had held me off buying them.  They are a brilliant fit and worth the money and still top of my Wish List.

The Clancy jean from Isabel Marant is one of those pairs of jeans that you will either love or hate, they are corseted so lift your ass and suck you in, I could wear these at night but not during the day.

I do love the Sonia Rykiel jeans too and on my Sales Wish List.

I have been living in my MiH and Ida jeans which I can also highly recommend.

Anyone that knows me knows I live in hoodies and in Spring or Summer you always need a cover up and they are perfect for this.  I do love Topshop and H&M and ordered a nude coloured one from Topshop, which I have been living in recently (although it does leave quite a lot of fluff on whatever you are wearing underneath!).  I wish I could find a cheaper version of this Allude cashmere hoodie, as it is the perfect shape.  This hoodie is a true investment piece, you could wear it all year round and it will look as good over a dress as over shorts or gym wear.

I am obsessed about finding a button through midi skirt to wear over my swimsuit during the summer days and pair it with a vest in the evening.  There are loads still on sale at Matches that are worth checking out.

This Lisa Marie Fernandez striped skirt is perfect and is still on sale or the checked version which is also 30% off.

Tops are my thing, there are so many to choose from; I love the asymmetric white one from Jacquemus, the pink off the shoulder shirt from Zimmermann is also on sale and has matching shorts.  I tend to wear a lot of white in the summer but I love the shape of the Rainbow top from Rachel Comey.  I love a blue shirt over white shorts in the summer and I spotted a brilliant one from Marc Jacobs.  I have already ordered this simple grey vest from Topshop.  I have checked and this kimono top from Dodo Bar Or is much lighter than the other pieces which I find too itchy and hard to wear in the summer.

It feels a bit strange to think about swimwear in freezing February but I do think this black version from Rachel Comey could be used as a body for now, under jeans.

I am obsessed about finding the perfect midi dress.  I am going to order the white Loup Charmant one as it is discounted and I lived in this brand last summer.  The Vampires Wife and Thierry Coulson dresses are the perfect shape and will take you from the beach to sightseeing to dinner.

Slides, mules and a midi heel are the shoes I want to be wearing this Spring and Summer.  Check out Maryam Nassir Zadeh for the black suede mules, otherwise Mango have a very similar one.  I love the Bottega slides and the  Tabitha Simmons sandals, which are real classic pieces which you will have for ever.

Main lesson is to think before you buy and also you can still find those expensive pieces preloved or still in sale.
