At this time of year we all want to be eating out but I always seem to go to the same old places.  When I am looking for somewhere new I search for an enticing yet well priced menu (as I usually have the kids in tow).  At this time of year it is also ideal if the restaurant has a terrace or is open at the front (OK, I am picky)!

Following a top off, a couple of weeks ago I headed to Galley London.  It is on Upper Street in Islington and it is my kind of place!  Amazing food, attentive service, fantastic wine selection and so fairly priced.  The entire front of the restaurant is open so it is airy and you get to people watch.

I am not a professional foodie…but I do love food…however, everything I ate was so delicious and light, from the feta salad, to the salt and pepper squid, not to mention the fabulous oysters (so my husband says).  They have a special oyster menu with hot and cold oysters to choose from.  It was high end dining yet still great value for money.   We were sitting at the chefs table which is a high bar facing the kitchen.  You can watch your food being prepared and cooked and even chat to the chef’s if you want to.  The food is served so beautifully and with such care.  The staff knew exactly what they were doing and this is so refreshing in a restaurant that is not based in the West End and super pricey.

The menu is varied with lots of fish and meat as well as vegetarian options.  We ordered the beef chateaubriand special for two and the meat was melt in the mouth tender and beautifully cooked and came with ample sides.

We finished with an incredible salted caramel cheesecake and then polished off 2 espresso martini’s which were beautifully executed.

They also have a great kids menu too but we were fortunate enough to go solo on this occasion.  They also are happy to host big parties.

So, in conclusion, this is an unassuming gem in a terrace of Upper Street where you have so many restaurants that you never normally know which ones are worth going to.  The Galley is, without doubt, my top tip this month and is well worth a visit!
