The hotter it gets the less make-up I wear, but I still need a bit of coverage, and with loads of great nights planned in Marbella, St. Tropez and Mykonos, I need a bit of va va voom.  I want to look sunkissed and bronzed not shiny and flustered.

I am blessed to know Lili who is phenomenal at achieving that ‘no-make up make-up’ look…that lasts.  She always makes me look like a slicker, better version of me.  I have been disappointed by other make-up artists who end up making me look like a bad bride, and on occasion, have simply headed straight home and removed all the make up I have just paid for!

Getting my make-up done is not something I do regularly.  I use Lili to go through my make-up bag and do a ‘detox’ and remind me of how to use what I have, and just add one or two new products.

The money I pay Lili is saved many times over as it has stopped me shopping randomly, buying make-up that I will never use.  In any case, I would have no idea how to put it on properly once I leave the shop.

She is my top tip.  If you are in London email her on and get her to pop over and revamp your make-up bag and show you how to use what you already have.  She is so reasonable too.

After a session with Lili – this is my revamped Summer make-up routine:

I tend to only use vitamin C serum in the mornings (Auriga C Forte from Amazon, it costs £20) and then a sunblock; I love Heliocare airgel and the one I use doubles up as a primer and foundation.  I then use a concealer from Chantecaille (le camouflage stylo) for under my eyes as it is light weight and hides the under eye bags, plus I adore Nars for the broken veins by my nose.

Make-up wise, I only really use it in the evening and my favourites are Dior Dreamskin Capture Total.  It comes in a practical compact, it covers, but allows your skin to breathe and is absorbed so there is no trace left.  I also adore By Terry CC Cellularose Cream, it covers but it’s also invisible on your skin.

The Celestial Glow by Kevin Aucoin has been a long term favourite of mine and I have written about it before.  I mix it with my make-up in the Summer to just make the finish look lighter.  I then use a brush to blend a little more in around my eyes to add a glow.

The Neo Bronzer from Kevyn Aucoin is a simple bronzer/highlighter to use and I just add it where the sun would naturally catch my face.  It is worth the money and gives your face a lift without looking over shiny.

I also use the Body Shop honey bronze on the go as it is such a neat size and it lifts without looking over made up.

I always use an eye-pencil for my brows (I love the Chantecaille Bow Definer) and a lick of Vaseline to keep my brows in place.  If I am heading out I use Kevyn Aucoin eye pencil as it doesn’t smudge and the applicator is really easy to use.  The one piece I have added to my make-up bag is their Defining Navy Palette.  The colours are so modern, they just lift your eyes and don’t look over made-up, which can be an issue with some eye make-up.

The trend in skincare is to take your products down to your boobs (as cleavage is quite a neglected area), and in make-up, to use your bronzer or highlighter on your eyes.  It gives a very modern and polished look to your make-up.

My favourite lip pencil is from Mac called Dervish, over the years I have tried loads, they are either too beige or too dark.  This one adds definition but you don’t notice it on your lips – and it lasts.  I adore Lipstick Queen products in the Summer as they are fresh and light and I am currently wearing Morning Queen as it is a lovely summer shade.  It is packed with vitamin E so it keeps your lips hydrated and the colour is really flattering on all skin tones.


The key is brushes.  The more the better – you layer products and get a better finish.  I have just bought another bunch from Boots to supplement those I already have.  I use brushes for everything as you end up with a much more polished and even look.
