The denim skirt is everywhere and I had decided, like the lace up flat, that this was a trend too far . I also think that denim skirts can be so unflattering- certainly over 40.

Leave the shorter versions to the young, skinny ones …

(Jane Simons) that means  you.

Then I saw this picture of australian blogger Tash Sefton, and I was smitten. This is the perfect way to wear a denim skirt.

I love how grown up it looks and how she styled it with heels and a gorgeous cashmere.  I think that this length is better on a taller person and a midi length would be better on a something someone smaller.

As a denim skirt is not an investment piece in my book, it is the perfect item to buy from the highstreet. If you are lucky enough to still be close to thirty and to be able to wear a mini skirt, then the styling still applies; dress the denim skirt up with a great shirt or cashmere.

I found the gorgeous Zara version, pictured at the bottom of the post, but what really caught my eye was this distressed higher waisted one from ASOS. The skirt costs thirty five pounds, so is an affordable way to dabble in the denim skirt.

I want this look to be polished so I have paired it with a striped shirt. This look is also better with heels.

The shirt is by Ralph Lauren and heels are a D&G pair found on eBay . The main message is to dress this look up and wear a heel.

The bracelet is by Aurora Living. It is really light weight and as all the pieces from this great duo, merge style and affordability.

I have done a round-up of my favourite pieces to recreate this look
