I have a love hate relationship with TK Maxx. I know that there are some gold nuggets in there but I seldom have the time to riffle through all the racks of clothes. This is a store that is best to get down and dirty in, by that, I mean you have to take your time, be open minded and pop in frequently so you get to know the stock.
Stylist Deborah Sheridan Taylor is someone who inspires me to keep going back. I interviewed her a couple of weeks ago to learn how to shop TK Maxx and find the brilliant pieces that she always seems to unearth.
The key to success is not to go in with something specific in mind, think of it like dating – be open minded.
There are certain things that the store excels in, such as sunglasses.
If you fancy a new pair of sunglasses then take a trip to TK Maxx and you will find all the top brands at prices starting from £25. Sometimes a colour like the red pair Deborah is wearing, or even white, or simply a different shape, add a bit of va va voom to an outfit; they are not classics so you don’t want to spend a fortune.
I have now ditched the big expensive designer bags; other than hoping to find a preloved Bottega bag I just want beautiful leather and a practical shape. TK Maxx excels in this area but you have to think outside the box. I would never have picked up the bags Deborah have spotted but seeing them styled she has bought some truly gorgeous ones. The best bit is that no one else has them! The blue bag is from Lulu Guinness the colour is that perfect shade of cornflower blue and the leather is butter soft.
I also adore the Joseph bag she found only last week, this is the perfect bag for Spring. Check out the Paul Costelloe bag or the simple black clutch that is online at the moment. For bags I think you have to hit the stores as the best ones never seem to go online.
This jacket is one of the pieces I adore the most and cost Deborah the same as a Zara piece but is so much better and is a classic she will wear forever. They have a great biker jacket online at the moment and I love this Joseph belted jacket one that is also available to shop via the link.
My advice is to pop in, have a rummage through and look out for those statement pieces and colours that you wouldn’t buy normally. These pieces add interest and depth to your wardrobe.
If you cannot face TK Maxx on your own, email Deborah on deborah
No one can mix up investment pieces, highstreet and vintage like Deborah and she is not about fitting you into the trends, she seeks out what best suits you, your lifestyle and then goes that extra mile so that you wear the clothes and your personality remains intact.
